BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Orlando Owner’s Guide

BFT keypad and intercom repair in Orlando typically runs $185 – $420 installed for most residential models, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad membrane, the intercom module, or the full unit. We stock BFT-compatible keypads, intercom boards, and replacement shells on the truck, so the most common swaps are same-day jobs. Most Orlando homeowners discover the failure the hard way: the keypad stops accepting the code one afternoon, or the intercom voice turns to static right when a delivery driver is standing outside the gate.

Here’s the thing about BFT gear in Central Florida: the heat and the humidity are hard on these components. We see keypads with cracked silicone buttons after three or four Orlando summers, and intercom boards that corrode from condensation inside the housing. The good news is these are replacement-friendly parts, and we can usually tell you over the phone what we think you’ll need before we ever roll a truck to your street.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT has been building gate operators since the 1960s, and their keypad and intercom line covers a lot of ground. The keypads we service most often include the BFT MITTO series, the BFT SCALE-A, and the BFT RADIUS wireless keypads. The intercom side tends to be the BFT IP DEE/DUE series, the BFT PERSEO, or the BFT UGO line. If you’re not sure which one you have, look for a silver BFT label on the back or underside of the unit, usually with a model code printed like “MITTO 2” or “IP DUE 2M.”

The compatibility gotcha with BFT is the radio frequency. Older BFT keypads and receivers run on 433.92 MHz, while newer rolling-code models use the fixed-code MITTO series or the full rolling-code CLONIX protocol. Mixing a new keypad with an older receiver usually means the keypad never talks to the board. When we show up in Orlando, the first thing we do is verify what’s already mounted on the wall and match it so you don’t end up with a paperweight. We recommend OEM BFT replacement keypads for anything involving rolling-code security, because generic aftermarket ones often skip the encryption handshake entirely.

Signs Your BFT Keypad or Intercom Is Failing

  • Keypad lights come on but the gate won’t move. This usually points to a failed radio transmitter inside the keypad, not the code itself. The buttons send nothing, even though the backlight still works. We see this on BFT MITTO keypads after heavy rain exposure in neighborhoods like College Park and Conway.
  • Some buttons work, others you have to press hard or twice. The silicone membrane under the keypad face is cracked or flattened. In Orlando’s heat, the rubber hardens faster than BFT’s climate testing ever accounted for. A new membrane or full keypad fixes it.
  • Intercom audio is scratchy, faint, or cuts out mid-sentence. This is usually corrosion on the speaker terminals or moisture inside the intercom housing. BFT intercoms installed without a rain hood in the Orlando afternoon storms get this within two to three years. A board-level repair or replacement module solves it.
  • You hear a buzz but no voice from the house station. The two-wire connection between the gate intercom and the indoor handset has degraded, or the handset itself has failed. We test the line first, because replacing a $350 intercom when it’s a $20 wire splice is just burning money.
  • The gate opens on its own or the keypad beeps randomly. Short circuits from moisture intrusion or chewed wiring send phantom signals. If you live near Lake Nona or any of the wetter parts of Orlando, expect this at least once in the life of the unit. We trace the wire, find the break, and seal the new splice properly.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we quote in Orlando, and we put it in writing before any work starts:

Repair Type Typical Installed Cost
Keypad membrane replacement (if available for your model) $85 – $140
Full wireless keypad replacement (BFT MITTO or SCALE-A) $185 – $280
Intercom board or module replacement $220 – $360
Complete keypad + intercom system swap $340 – $420

Those numbers include the part and the labor to remove the old unit, wire in the new one, program the codes or intercom channels, and test the whole system through at least five open-close cycles. We write the price down before we touch a single screw, and that price doesn’t move unless we find something genuinely unexpected and you approve the change first. Every repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise, so if the keypad dies again inside a year, we’re back out at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

For keypad and intercom work, the honest split is this: you can safely check a few things yourself, but the wiring is low-voltage and the radio pairing is fiddly enough that most Orlando homeowners are better off calling us. You can check that the keypad’s battery (if it has one) isn’t dead, inspect the housing for cracks or standing water, and make sure the breaker isn’t tripped. Beyond that, wiring a BFT intercom wrong can fry the board on the main operator, and suddenly a $220 repair becomes an $800 operator swap. Dean Prescott grew up learning low-voltage wiring at LATTC and has spent nearly two decades on Orlando gates, and he’ll tell you the same thing: “Tell me what the gate is doing – or not doing – and I’ll give you a real number before I touch a thing.” Call us at (850) 816-3017 and describe the symptom. We’ll give you a range over the phone.
