Most Linear gate owners in Orlando call us when a welded bracket, hinge mount, or operator chassis has cracked or sheared, and the repair lands between $240 and $680 installed, depending on what needs to be fabricated and whether the part is on our truck or has to be cut and fit on site. We stock common Linear-compatible weld plates, gate hinge brackets, and operator mounting tabs, and our Orlando techs can usually perform the fabrication and reinstallation in a single visit. The way you find out is rarely subtle: the gate starts sagging toward the latch side, the operator makes a grinding sound as it strains against a misaligned mount, or you spot a rust line tracing through what used to be a solid weld.
We are an independent Kingswell company, not a Linear dealer or affiliate, which means our interest is in the strongest, straightest repair for the gate you own, not in selling you a specific replacement part number.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
Linear’s residential and light-commercial lineup is still all over Orlando, from older VSX and LRA swing operators to the current APeX and Pro Access slide and swing systems, and the welding points that fail are almost always the same: the hinge weldments on the gate leaf, the post mounting plates, and the operator tower or pad brackets. The weldments on Linear’s own operator chassis tend to be heavier than aftermarket clones, so when we see a cracked chassis it is usually on a gate that has been pushed into a wall, hit by a vehicle, or run for years with one hinge failing and the weight shifting onto the operator.
To match the part correctly, we need two things: the Linear model number on the operator’s side label (usually starting with “LRA,” “VSX,” or “APeX”), and a measurement of the hinge or bracket’s bolt pattern, which is the distance center-to-center between the mounting bolt holes. An OEM Linear bracket will always match the hole pattern exactly; a quality aftermarket fabrication from a local steel shop can be cut as a direct equivalent and often costs 30 – 40% less, though the steel gauge matters more in Orlando than it does most places. Florida humidity and salt-adjacent air means a thinner aftermarket plate will out-rust a proper 1/4-inch hot-dipped galvanized piece inside three to four years.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags noticeably at the latch side. A cracked hinge weld or an eroded hinge barrel lets the gate leaf drop, which throws the latch out of alignment and makes the operator work against the extra friction. In Orlando’s heat, the weld may look fine from five feet away and still be hanging on by a third of its cross-section.
- The operator makes a groaning or popping noise while running. When a mounting tab cracks, the motor assembly flexes under load and the noise changes pitch. Think of it as a deep rattle, not the normal gear whine.
- Rust blooms along a weld seam or bolt plate. Florida’s wet season accelerates corrosion at exactly the points where the steel was heated during welding, because the heat-affected zone loses some of the factory’s galvanic protection. A rust line that follows a weld is a future crack.
- The gate shifts backward or forward under light hand pressure. You should not be able to rock the gate against its hinges. Play at the hinge weld means the steel is flexing in a way it was never designed to, and the crack will grow.
- Bolt heads are pulling through or ovaling the mounting plate. When a plate wears thin from rust or the bolt holes elongate from repeated stress, the bolts lose clamp load. That is less a bolt problem than a plate problem, and welding up the hole is only a short-term patch.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Orlando, a simple hinge bracket fabrication and reinstall runs about $240 to $380, which includes cutting a replacement plate to match the original bolt pattern, prepping the steel, welding it in place, and remounting the gate leaf. A more involved repair, like an operator tower plate or a cracked Linear chassis weldment that has to be removed, reinforced, and reinstalled, usually lands between $420 and $680. The two variables that move the price most are whether we can work with the gate still hung or have to take it down and lay it flat, and whether the original part is a standard size we keep on the truck or something that takes a trip to a local steel supplier.
Every one of those numbers is a written quote you get before we put a grinder to steel. That is the Kingswell Guarantee on every Portcullis Gate Repair Orlando job: a written price before any work starts, a real arrival window, a clean job site, and a written guarantee on the repair, stamped on the invoice, good for 365 days under the Done Right Promise. If the fabrication or weld fails in that year, we return and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
There are things you can check safely: read the model label, measure the bolt pattern so you know what you are dealing with, and note whether the crack is in the hinge plate or the operator mount. What you should not do is try to weld a gate hinge or an operator bracket yourself. The geometry has to be exact, the gate leaf often weighs several hundred pounds, and a hinge misalignment of even a quarter inch spreads stress through the entire Linear operator and shortens its life considerably. When you are lying under a sagging gate that is being held by a partially cracked weld, the downside of a mistake is not cosmetic.
One other thing about Orlando weather: welding outside in our summer humidity means preheating the steel to drive off moisture before the first bead goes down. Skip that step and the weld will look fine and fail early. It is the kind of detail we deal with every week, and one more reason this work is best left to a shop that does it in this humidity. Call (850) 816-3017 and tell me what the gate is doing, or not doing, and I’ll give you a real number before I touch a thing.
FAQs
A properly fabricated, properly galvanized hinge weldment in the Orlando climate should last 10 to 15 years before corrosion or fatigue becomes a concern, though gates exposed to sprinkler overspray or within a mile of the coast often need attention in 8 to 10 years. The original factory welds are not the weak point most of the time; the failure is usually where aftermarket plates were made too thin for the weight of the gate leaf. Call (850) 816-3017 and we can look at the existing welds and give you an honest lifespan expectation for your specific setup.
It depends on the crack’s length, location, and whether the steel around it is still full thickness. A short crack in a thick plate can often be ground out and re-welded with proper penetration; a long crack through a rust-thinned plate, or one in a cast portion of a Linear operator chassis, usually warrants fabricating a new reinforced bracket instead. We will always show you the failed part and the repair plan before we start, and the written quote covers whichever approach is right. Call (850) 816-3017 for a free evaluation.
Most single-hinge or mounting-bracket fabrications are completed in one visit of two to four hours, assuming the part is a standard size or we can cut a replacement to the existing bolt pattern on site. If a part has to be matched to an unusual configuration or the gate has to be taken down and re-hung, we schedule the extra time and tell you the plan up front. Call (850) 816-3017 and we can give you a time estimate based on the photo of the affected area.
Yes, our Orlando trucks carry common Linear-compatible hinge plates, mounting tabs, and steel stock for straightforward fabrications, along with parts support for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls for the jobs where a customer has a mixed setup. If your Linear model needs a bracket that is not a standard truck item, we can usually have it cut and ready within a day or two. Call (850) 816-3017 with the model number and we will tell you before we schedule whether the part is on hand.
If your Linear gate is sagging, popping, or showing rust lines through its welds, call Portcullis Gate Repair Orlando at (850) 816-3017. We will give you a free estimate, a straight answer about whether the part can be repaired or should be replaced, and a written price before any work begins. A live person answers around the clock.
