If you have a Ghost Controls gate operator with a cracked bracket, a broken gate leaf frame, or a hinge post that’s pulled away from the masonry, we can weld and fabricate the repair in Orlando, usually the same day we diagnose it. Typical Ghost Controls welding and fabrication work around Orlando runs $180 to $520 installed, depending on whether we’re reinforcing an existing bracket, fabricating a new steel mounting plate, or rebuilding a section of the gate frame itself. Most owners discover the problem when the gate starts dragging, banging against the post, or the operator arm (the motorized linkage that pushes and pulls the gate) visibly flexes at the attachment point. By the time you see that flex, the metal has been fatiguing for a while, and Orlando humidity has usually accelerated the rust at the weld joint. We’ll sort it.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
The welding and fabrication work we do for Ghost Controls operators almost always falls into three buckets: the mounting brackets that anchor the actuator to the gate and post, the gate frame itself where the bracket bolts on, and the hinge side that carries all that weight. This applies across the Ghost Controls lineup, including the AXP series, the VXP series with its battery backup options, and the DTP dual-gate packages. The compatibility gotcha with Ghost Controls is the bracket bolt pattern: the actuator mounting plates are punched for specific hole spacing, and if you or a previous installer drilled extra holes into the gate frame to make a universal bracket fit, you weaken the metal right where the leverage is highest. That’s the failure we repair most often in Orlando, and it’s why we carry pre-drilled Ghost Controls-compatible steel plate stock on the truck, along with raw stock we cut and bend on site. The OEM versus aftermarket decision matters more on the electronic control board than it does on fabricated steel. For brackets and mounting hardware, a well-made steel plate that matches the actuator’s bolt pattern is functionally identical to the Ghost Controls original, and we prefer it when the factory part is thinner gauge than what Orlando gate frames actually need.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate scrapes the ground or bangs into the closed position. Hinges and brackets shift when welds crack. The gate sags, and the operator has to work against gravity and friction, which shortens the actuator motor’s life.
- The actuator arm flexes or twists at the mounting point during travel. That movement is a cracked bracket or a fatigued gate frame. It only gets worse, and each cycle is tearing the metal a little more.
- Rust blooms around bolt heads and weld seams. Central Florida’s humidity and the daily afternoon rain put constant moisture on unpainted or scratched steel. Once rust gets under the bracket, it expands and cracks the surrounding weld, even if nothing looks broken from the front.
- The gate suddenly swings wider or stops short. A shifted bracket changes the travel geometry. The limit settings on the operator are now wrong, so the gate opens too far or not far enough, even though the control board is fine.
- You hear a sharp pop followed by a dragging sound. That’s typically a weld failing completely, often at the hinge post where the stress concentrates. The gate is now hanging on the remaining hinge and the operator arm, and it needs to be addressed before the actuator takes a hit it can’t recover from.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Orlando, most Ghost Controls welding and fabrication repairs fall into these ranges:
- Bracket reinforcement or replacement: $180 to $320, including the fabricated steel plate, welding, paint or cold-galvanizing treatment, and re-mounting the actuator.
- Gate frame crack repair: $220 to $420, depending on how much of the frame has to be cut back and replaced. We grind out the crack, weld in fresh steel, and finish it so it won’t fail at the heat-affected zone next to the weld.
- Hinge post repair or hinge rebuild: $280 to $520, including fabrication of reinforcement plates or new hinge barrels, along with realignment of the gate leaf.
The price is written down and agreed to before we strike the first arc. We don’t give a range on the phone and then try to double it once the gate is apart; we come out, look at the metal, and tell you exactly what it costs. Every welding and fabrication repair we do for a Ghost Controls system carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. That promise is printed on the invoice: if the weld fails or the bracket shifts within a year, we return and make it right at no charge. That includes the free second visit, so there’s no dispatch fee or “minimum service call” waiting for you when we come back.

You can safely check a few things before calling. Look at the brackets where the actuator mounts. If you see rust staining, movement when the gate travels, or daylight through what should be a solid seam, that’s the problem. You can measure the gap between the gate and the post at the top and bottom of the hinge side to see if the gate has sagged. But welding a cracked bracket or a gate frame is not a weekend project with a big-box flux-core welder. Ghost Controls actuators move a lot of weight through a short lever arm. A cold weld or an improperly fitted bracket will fail again, usually at the worst moment, and can take the actuator motor with it. Welding also involves risks you don’t want: burns, eye damage, and structural failure of a gate that can weigh several hundred pounds. If you’re seeing cracked metal or broken welds, call us at (850) 816-3017. We’ll look at it and tell you what it costs before we touch a thing.
FAQs
A properly executed weld on properly prepared steel, finished with a rust-resistant treatment, should last a decade or more in Orlando, provided the gate itself is balanced and not dragging. What fails early is not the weld itself but the original installation: rust left under the paint, a bracket that was never the right fit for the actuator, or a gate that was already sagging and was never corrected. We correct all three when we do the repair, which is why we back it for a full 365 days. Call (850) 816-3017 to have us assess your setup and give you an exact number for the repair.
It depends on the crack’s location and how far the rust has traveled. A short hairline crack near a bolt hole can often be ground out, welded, and reinforced with a shaped plate so it doesn’t recur. A bracket that has rusted through or fractured at multiple points should be replaced with new steel. We’ll show you which situation you have and quote the repair before we start. You can reach us at (850) 816-3017 for a free estimate.
Most bracket reinforcements and frame crack repairs take two to four hours on site, including prep, welding, finishing, and remounting the actuator. A hinge post rebuild can run longer if we need to fabricate new hinge barrels and cut the old ones off. We’ll give you a real arrival window and a completion estimate before the job is scheduled, and we’ll tell you the price in writing before any welding begins. For a more specific time estimate on your Ghost Controls project in Orlando, call (850) 816-3017.
We stock pre-drilled steel plates that match Ghost Controls actuator bolt patterns, along with raw steel stock for custom brackets and frame repairs, so we can do most fabrication without ordering parts and rescheduling. For electronic components, we also carry parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing on the truck, so if the welding repair uncovers an actuator problem too, we can usually fix it in the same visit. Call (850) 816-3017 and tell us what the gate is doing, or not doing, and we’ll give you a real number before we touch a thing.
