Get your free estimateElite Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Elite-compatible keypads and intercom components across Orlando, and most keypad or intercom module replacements run between $275 and $525 installed, depending on the Elite model and whether we’re swapping a single component or the full entry panel. Same-day service is common for keypad failures because our trucks carry the most frequently replaced Elite entry parts. Most Orlando owners discover a failing keypad the hard way: the gate works fine from a clicker or the inside release, but the keypad won’t light up, won’t accept the code, or the intercom audio goes silent right when a delivery driver is trying to reach the house.
If your Elite keypad has gone dark or your intercom crackles instead of talking, you’re in the right place. We’re Portcullis Gate Repair Orlando, an independently owned Kingswell company, and we repair Elite entry systems throughout the Orlando area. We’re not affiliated with Elite, but we’ve serviced their keypads and intercom modules for years, and we keep the common replacement parts on our trucks so we can usually fix the problem in one visit.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite builds gate operators and entry systems under a few different series names, and the keypad or intercom you need depends on which one is on your property. The majority of residential Orlando gates with Elite hardware use the EL-1 or EL-2000 series operators, paired with either a standalone Elite keypad or a combined keypad-intercom entry panel. On commercial gates, we see the Elite Slide and Commercial Swing lines, which tend to use the heavier-duty entry panels with more wiring leads.
The fastest way to identify the right Elite part is to check the back of the existing keypad or the inside of the entry panel housing. Elite stamps a model number on nearly everything, usually starting with a letter like “K” for keypad models or “IC” for intercom controls. For older Elite systems, the label may be faded from Florida sun, so measure the cutout dimensions in the gate pillar or bollard before you order anything. A keypad that says it fits “Elite” generically often doesn’t fit the cutout your installer made in 2009. That’s the most common compatibility gotcha we correct for Orlando homeowners who tried to order a part themselves.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for Elite specifically: Elite’s own keypads are well-built and worth the money on newer systems. On older Elite operators, a quality aftermarket keypad with matching voltage specs works fine, and it’s often the only option if the original part is no longer made. We’ll show you both choices and a written price for each before any work starts.

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Keypad is completely dark with no backlight. This typically points to a failed power feed to the keypad, either from a corroded wire connection at the operator board or a dead keypad circuit board. In Orlando, humidity creeps into the keypad housing over time and accelerates both failures.
- Keypad lights up but ignores the code. Sometimes this is a worn keypad membrane that isn’t making contact under the rubber buttons. Other times the keypad’s memory has been corrupted by repeated power surges, which are common in Central Florida during afternoon thunderstorm season.
- Some buttons work, others need three or four hard presses. That’s a classic symptom of a failing tactile switch under those specific keys. Elites from the mid-2010s are entering the age where these switches wear out unevenly.
- Intercom audio is scratchy, one-way, or gone. In most Orlando installs, this traces back to a corroded speaker connection or a failed audio board inside the entry panel. If the tenant or delivery person can hear you but you can’t hear them, it’s usually the panel-side microphone.
- Gate opens on its own or won’t close after a keypad press. This is sometimes a keypad issue, but more often it’s a failing limit switch or an obstruction-sensor misalignment in the operator. We see this frequently after heavy rain when the photo-eye mounts shift slightly in soft soil.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Orlando, expect to pay between $275 and $525 installed for most Elite keypad replacements and between $350 and $650 for intercom module repairs that require re-terminating wires or swapping an audio board. A full entry panel with keypad, speaker, and microphone runs higher, typically $600 to $900 installed, because the wiring often needs to be trimmed back and redone after years of Florida moisture exposure.
| Elite Repair Type | Typical Installed Range in Orlando |
|---|---|
| Standalone keypad replacement | $275 – $525 |
| Intercom audio board or speaker replacement | $350 – $650 |
| Full keypad + intercom entry panel | $600 – $900 |
| Wiring repair / re-termination at the panel | $150 – $300 |
Every price gets written down before we touch a bolt. The number on the invoice is the number you approved, and the Kingswell Guarantee covers the repair for 365 days. If it fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
DIY or Call Us?
The honest answer: there are things a careful Orlando homeowner can check before calling us, and then there’s the wiring. You can safely confirm whether the keypad has power by checking if any backlight appears at dusk. You can also clear obvious debris from around the keypad and make sure nobody changed the access code without telling you. What you should not do is open the entry panel and start probing wires. Elite keypads and intercom modules run on low-voltage DC, which is not dangerous to touch, but a single crossed wire at the operator board can fry a control board that costs several hundred dollars to replace.
The Florida humidity makes every connection point a slow corrosion project. We’ve seen homeowners spend a Saturday re-soldering a keypad wire only to have the same failure return two months later because the real problem was a degraded wire run inside the bollard. If you’d rather have it done once and covered for a year, call us at (850) 816-3017 and we’ll give you a real number before we start.
FAQs
Elite keypads typically last 7 to 10 years in the Orlando area, which is about 2 to 3 years shorter than the same parts last in drier climates. The combination of heat, afternoon storms, and humidity works on the keypad housing seals and the solder joints inside the unit. Call (850) 816-3017 for a quote if yours is in that age range and acting up.
It depends on what has failed. We regularly repair Elite entry systems by replacing the tactile keypad membrane, the audio board, or the corroded wire terminations, which is a repair on the existing panel. When the main circuit board itself is shot or the housing is cracked past a usable state, replacement is the better value. Call (850) 816-3017 and Dean Prescott can tell you which way to go once we know what the gate is doing or not doing.
Most standalone Elite keypad replacements take 45 minutes to an hour and a half on site. Intercom module repairs that require re-terminating multiple wires run 90 minutes to two hours. We carry the common Elite key and IC parts on our trucks, so one visit is usually all it takes. Call (850) 816-3017 and we’ll give you a straight time estimate for your specific system.
We stock the most frequently replaced Elite keypads and intercom boards on our service trucks and at our Orlando shop, so most residential Elite repairs happen same-day. For less common Elite commercial panels or older model-series parts, we source them from our supplier network and install them within a few days. Call (850) 816-3017 with your Elite model number and we’ll tell you exactly what we have on hand.
