Ghost Controls access control installation in Orlando typically runs $280 – $640 installed, depending on whether you need a keypad, receiver board, intercom, or full multi-device integration. We stock Ghost Controls-compatible access control parts on our trucks, and most keypad or receiver swaps are done the same day we arrive. The way most Orlando owners discover a failed access control part is simple: the gate stops answering the code, ignores the remote, or opens on its own at 3 a.m. after a hard rain.
If that sounds familiar, tell me what the gate is doing – or not doing – and I’ll give you a real number before I touch a thing. Call (850) 816-3017 and you’ll get a live person, not a voicemail tree.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
The access control side of Ghost Controls breaks into a few distinct pieces: the keypad (hardwired AXDP model or the wireless one), the receiver board inside the control box, the wired push-button or intercom station, and the vehicle exit wand or loop detector. The model that matters most is the control board itself. Ghost Controls sells two main board generations: the older R series and the current AX series. A keypad wired for an R-series board will not always play nicely with an AX-series board because the wiring terminals moved and the voltage tolerance changed slightly.
When you open the control box, look for a white label on the board with “AX” or “R” printed as the first characters. That letter tells us which parts are plug-and-play and which need a wiring adapter. We use OEM Ghost Controls parts when the compatibility matters most – boards and receiver modules especially – and we’re comfortable using quality aftermarket keypads and photo-eye replacements where the spec matches and the warranty holds up. Aftermarket keypads can save $40 – $80, but a board is not the place to save money. A mismatched board is the single most common reason a “repaired” Ghost Controls gate fails again inside a month in Orlando.
Portcullis Gate Repair Orlando is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Ghost Controls, but we service their equipment daily alongside LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing systems.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad lights up but won’t release the gate. The keypad is still getting power, which means the board is likely fine. The problem is usually the keypad’s internal relay or a corroded wire connection at the board. Orlando humidity creeps into those keypads through the speaker holes and corrodes the relay contacts over two or three years.
- The gate opens randomly without anyone pressing anything. Almost always a failing receiver board picking up stray signal or a keypad with water inside the housing making intermittent contact. We see this a lot after summer thunderstorms along the Colonial Drive corridor and out toward Lake Nona.
- The remote works but the keypad doesn’t. If the remote still triggers the gate, the main board is doing its job. The keypad itself or its wiring is the problem. That narrows the repair to a single component instead of guessing.
- You hear a click at the box but nothing moves. The access control part is working – it’s sending the signal. The problem sits downstream in the arm or limit switch. That’s a different repair, but we’ll diagnose both while we’re there.
- The code works sometimes, usually after pressing it twice. Classic failing relay inside the keypad. It catches on the first try occasionally, but not reliably. This gets worse, not better, and it’s a $20 part that some companies quote as a full board replacement.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Ghost Controls access control installation runs in Orlando, parts and labor together:
- Keypad replacement (OEM AXDP): $280 – $390 installed
- Keypad replacement (quality aftermarket): $220 – $310 installed
- Receiver board swap: $310 – $440 installed
- Push-button or wired call station: $160 – $260 installed
- Full access control upgrade (keypad + board + reprogramming): $480 – $640 installed
The spread comes down to how much wiring needs repair inside the box, whether the board is salvageable, and whether we’re pulling new wire through existing conduit. Every quote is written down before work starts – no number changes after we open the box. If we open the control box and find the board is fine but the wire run to the keypad is corroded, we’ll show you the exact issue and give you the adjusted number in writing before we touch another bolt.
Every access control repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, stamped on the invoice. If it fails within that year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: confirm the control box has power, look for a tripped GFCI outlet, and see whether the keypad is visibly cracked or full of water. Those checks cost you nothing and help on the phone.
Where DIY goes wrong on Ghost Controls access control parts is in the board wiring. The control board carries 12V DC for accessories and 120V AC for the main power. Grabbing the wrong terminal because the old wire faded to the same color as its neighbor can fry a board in one second. If you’re comfortable with low-voltage wiring and have the board diagram, a keypad swap is doable. If the words “J2 terminal” mean nothing to you, call (850) 816-3017. We’ll bring the part, match it to your model, and have your gate answering its code before the afternoon rain rolls through.
FAQs
Keypads in Orlando typically last 3 – 5 years before the humidity and afternoon heat break down the internal relay or the membrane keypad surface. Receiver boards last longer – 6 – 10 years often – but they fail earlier if the control box isn’t sealed well or sits in direct sun. Call (850) 816-3017 and we can look at your exact setup.
Sometimes yes, when the problem is a corroded wire connection or a stuck button. When the internal relay is gone or water has gotten into the board, replacement is cheaper and more reliable than a patch job. We’ll show you the inside of the keypad before recommending anything.
A standard keypad swap takes 45 – 90 minutes on site. A receiver board replacement runs about an hour. If we’re running new wire or integrating a second access point, plan for two to three hours.
